FLOCCULANT
A liquid product for precipitating phosphorus from water in ponds and for suppressing the growth of algae
Product information
Principle of the method:
Applied to the water surface, the aluminium-based coagulant will induce precipitation of phosphorus into an insoluble form and its encapsulation in the sediment. The flakes formed during the sedimentation process remove impurities from the water by aggregating fine particles into flakes which will settle on the bottom, covering the existing sediment. The process can be used to reduce the amount of phosphorus in the water, thereby preventing unwanted growth of green algae and toxic blue-green algae, as well as reducing turbidity. FLOCCULANT can be used in ponds with fish and other aquatic organisms.
Application:
• Recommended dose (depending on the level of contamination):
40 to 80 ml of FLOCCULANT per cubic metre of water.
• In small ponds, FLOCCULANT is applied diluted (recommended dilution: 1:5 to 1:10) by using a watering can. In larger ponds, FLOCCULANT can be applied from a boat, by using a can or a delivery pump (depending on the pond area). In either case, perfect mixing/homogenisation after the application is imperative.
If well-developed phytoplankton was present in the pond, flotation of the phytoplankton flakes on the water’s surface may occur following application of FLOCCULANT. This layer will eventually decay and settle. The process can be accelerated by sprinkling with water. Monitor the pH level when applying FLOCCULANT; it should not fall below 6.5.
